Jill and Jim Ripley are the owners of Ripley Pine Logs, a second generation arborist and wood wholesaling business in Southeastern MA.
The Ripleys, along with their daughters Jamie and Jenna were left with a serious challenge in mid 2010 when Jamie was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. “We thought she was just going through a rapid growth spurt eating and drinking like crazy. But when she continued to lose weight, we went straight to Children’s Hospital.”
At Boston Children’s Hospital the Ripley’s were thrust quickly into the world of juvenile diabetes education and treatment learning about proper nutrition, administering medication, and watching for complications. Jill Ripley in particular has become very active with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Association. Jill says her family’s goal for telling Jamie’s story is not to “make people feel bad for us” but rather to make others aware of what a terrible disease this is for a child to face and what can be done to help.
The good news is that 18 months after being diagnosed Jamie is doing well with her treatment and living a normal life. The Ripleys plan to continue their work and support of Juvenile Diabetes Research Association including participating in the annual walk each fall. They encourage and thank anyone interested and able to make their tax deduct donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Association and mail in their care to 45 13th Ave, Halifax MA 02338
“Team Pesos”, including Nicole Greim, Rob Retoma, Keith Greim and Dan Loughlin, sponsored by Loughlin Financial Group competed in the Tough Mudder Vermont on May 7th. The Tough Mudder competition is a combination of two well known endurance races the “Ironman” and “Burning Man”. The 10-12 mile obstacle courses are designed by British Special Forces to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. Forget finish times, simply completing a Tough Mudder is a badge of honor. The Tough Mudder Vermont was the largest athletic event in Vermont history. 14,000 participants took on 10 miles and over 25 obstacles, with 13,747 feet of elevation change and 7,000 feet of climbing. Only 83% of participants finished Tough Mudder Vermont.
All Tough Mudder sponsorship proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project. Team Pesos with the aid of Loughlin Financial Group and their friends and families was able to raise over $1000.00 for the Wounded Warrior Project. See you next year!
